Road trip entertainment can be challenging. Of course, in this modern age, kids can easily be entertained by electronic media. It can be a challenge to find other activities to keep your children happy in the car. I have included some tried and true options that are helpful when traveling.

When I am wanting to keep "littles" busy in the car, my first stop is the local Dollar Tree. I would get plastic pencil boxes and fill them with art supplies such as crayons, colored pencils and stickers. I would also pick up some new books and coloring books. There is something about fresh supplies that are more attention-grabbing. The Dollar Tree offers an inexpensive way to refresh things.

My next step would be to prepare some snacks. I like these snackle boxes because they add a fun way to offer a variety of snacks. The inserts also remove for easy access for the adults that are distributing the snack. My family owns this exact one and has used it numerous times.

Obviously, I would pack up my girls' favorite toys. But, sometimes it is fun to have ideas for new items or gift items that can be useful in the car. I have compiled the below list of suggestions for different categories. Links for the recommended items can be found  here.

Art Supplies:

These writing tablets are the modern Etch-a-Sketch. Kids love them and there is no mess.

This art set comes with it's own case that doubles as a lap desk.

Make sure you have plenty of paper when the creative juices start flowing!

These sticker books are a favorite for my six year-old niece!

Solutions for Busy Hands

This busy book would be great for busy toddlers!

These bendable robots could keep kids busy for hours!

These fidgets are engaging because they have beads that can be sorted.

Wiki Sticks are always a favorite!

Magnets and Reusable Stickers

This pack of reusable sticker books looks like endless fun!

I love that these magnet sets come in their own travel tins. Endless fun!

This magnetic maze game would be a hit with car fanatics!

Surprise Toys Along the Way

The best advice someone once gave me to keep kids entertained was to offer small trinkets or toys as "surprises" along the trip. When my daughter was a toddler and we flew to Disney, I wrapped up small princesses from the dollar store. The novelty kept her excited throughout the travel. Look for small toys based on your child's preferred interest. This set of mini cars would be fun for kids that love transportation.

Games and Puzzle Books

This game is a favorite in my family! Continued fun of trying to solve the puzzles.

Puzzle books are always entertaining!

Road trip scavenger hunt games! Keep their eyes peeled out for the next requested item!

A trivia game for the Disney fanatics!

Family travel is priceless so no matter what you have in your toolkit, focus on being present in the moment!
